Down from the Sky

Last weekend while I was listening at this great Manowar's song I decided to retake my old idea of a 1500 drop pod (and obel) army.

I plan to use this against my usual Tau and (traitor) IG foes. We are talking about so many tanks it's not even funny. The idea is to give them the first turn without deploying anything and then start the fun on my turn 1 with the drop pods. I haven't designed it to min max everything but to have fun.

Squad 1
  • Logan Grimnar

  • 6 Long Fangs (3x melta, 1x LC, 1x ML)

  • Wolf Guard (terminator armor, cyclone)

  • Drop Pod

Squad 2 & 3

  • 7 scouts (melta bombs, melta gun)

  • Wolf Guard (combi melta, chain fist)

Squad 4 & 5
  • 10 Wolf Guard (10 combi melta, 1 chain fist)

  • Drop Pod

The LF squad should be able to pop 1 or 2 tanks the turn it arrives with Logan's High King skill. Logan himself and the termie WG should be able to take some for the team and keep them alive for a while.

With Logan will arrive one of the combi melta squads and pop one more tank. The second turn will be decisive, it will all depend on the casualties and the reserve dices.

Pros:

  • Enough meltas to make my friends stop liking tanks.
  • Lots of fun with average luck

Cons:

  • Too random (deep strike scatter and reserve dices).
  • Only two scoring units (WG thanks to Logan).
  • My friends might be reading this and build their armies accordingly...

Grey Hunters squad ready!

As promised here you have the pics of the Grey Hunters I finished last week:

I'm not a big fan of the baby blue GW is using lately, I prefer the pre-heresy color scheme. I haven't decided yet which company and pack marks I'm going to use so they are not totally finished. I've changed the side of the yellow shoulderpad so both the power armor and the terminator armor got it on the same side.

As for the bits I have combined vanilla SM and Space wolves and I think they look wolfy enough. I will only go full SW bits with the Wolf Guard to make a difference.

Right now I'm working on 3 more terminators and aiming to finish them next week, so expect new posts about them soon!

Incoming: Blood Angels

This morning I have received a nice surprise in the email. The Blood Angels will have a shiny and long deserved new Codex in April.

Will the new minis be up to the level of the new Space Hulk terminators? I really hope so! I expect at least several HQs and a Furioso dreadnought, lets see what rumours in the wind say in the next weeks.

Space Wolves FAQ

Finally the official FAQ is out. It is very detailed and it solves all the doubts I had. I'm especially happy with two things:

  • Logan can benefit from the High King special rule the turn he arrives from reserves and at the beggining of the oponent's turn. I've wanted to drop pod him with a Long Fang squad plus a Wolf Guard with Cyclone since the codex came out. Expensive but I play many times against tau and Imperial Guard so I think it will be a lot of fun combined with scouts.
  • The +1 T from the Thunderwolf mount counts against Instant Death. Basically no more Saga of the Bear for my Wolf Lords.
I recommend to have a good read at it, it has many JoWW clarifications and a funny thing, Lukas can kill a Warlord titan with the Last Laugh.

For the Allfather!

After a messy new year's eve all my guys are back in one piece (literally). Listen to this advice, never apply purity seal to your minis and forget them outside in a windy day. Especially if it's already dark outside. And rainy. We spent a funny hour in the rain with a lamp trying to get all the pieces of the little soldiers back together. It was like a really boring CSI episode.

So far I have finished 2 Grey Hunter's squads and 2 Wolf Guard termies that are looking like this:

After seeing the new codex's cover I decided to go with red shoulder pads and some golden details. For the rest of the army I have used the classic yellow ones (pics coming soon). I'm using vallejo paints plus citadel mechrite red and I'm liking the results so far. My little guys won't make me win a Golden Demon but they do look nice in the battlefield.
