Land Raider A

Hi all.

Today´s post is a pre-painting (post-assembly) Land Raider.

It happened to be my birthday about a month and a half ago, so my friends gave me a LR as a present and I bought another one when I went to prague in holydays so I have two Land Raiders, a spanish one and a chezc one.

This first is one of them (don´t know who of them, cause the main body is the same (the praguese one is a crusader/redeemer).

This will be the classical heavy bolter/lascannon LR, and thus I´ve added the Raven Guard land raider kit from forgeworld onto it along with some RG etched brass.

Don´t know why but blogger uploads some of my photos turned 90 degrees to the right...

Here you can see a close view of the front door with the iconography of the Raven Guard.
A view from the left so you can see the square of etched-brassed RG iconography.
A close up of it.
And a right-side view, here you can see some details I added between the front door and the side door.
A close up of the details.
And this are the pair of side doors that came along with the Raven Guard LR kit, different one from the other, but both of them keeping the same laurel theme.

As they are big and well detailed bits, I suppose they will be a pleasure to paint, and a pleasure to behold once the LR is finished.

Forgeworld librarian

As I was painting the vanguard vets squad I realized that, as I finish the vets squads, I can paint an HQ as a self-reward for painting an entire squad, that is why I painted the chaplain for the vanguards and that is why I painted this libby for the Sternguard.

Thing is that I totally love Librarians, the feeling of a warrior-mage of the future is strongly appealing for me (as well as any warrior-mage, I love them) so libbys and seers are among my favourite miniatures/concepts of the whole 40k.

This case: This is the Chief librarian of the Red Scorpions, filed and slightly converted so it sports some Raven Guard iconography.

This libby is not an impressive miniature, but that is what I truly like about it, as I did with the Raven Guard FW dreadnought, his simplicity (compared with other guys, of course) is what makes them truly fit the sneaky and secretive chapter the Raven Guard is.

As you can see he is plenty decorated with turquoise coloured motifs, this will be the colour change I will be making in my librarians to make them apart from the regular dudes.

As you can see I´ve changed his book-topped backpack for a FW Raven Guard upgrade kit backpack, this is because he is a warrior, not a lectern and I really don´t like the backpack standarts and the like.
Here is where the red scorpions icon was, it was filed and I glued a Raven Guard icon from the Raven Guard etched brass from FW.
As you can see his eyelenses are blue too, libbies are the only troopers in my army that will not have red eyelenses, just to keep on with the libby theme.

What do you think about it??

Sternguard veterans squad A second batch and group shot.

And there is the promised second batch of the sternguard veteran squad A.

A detail of the sarge, with the powerfist, as in the vanguard squad, he is the only one with a white tabard.

A detail of the right shoulderpad and the bolter (a bit blurry photo by the way), the whole squad bear the same markings on the bolter, the second squad will sport the raven claw marking.
A detail of the backpack.

A group shot of the whole squad.

Comments are welome.

Sternguard Veterans squad A first batch.

And here is the other half of my vet project... well, other quarter, because I´m gonna assemble twenty vanguard and twenty sternguard veterans.

Here are a batch of five vanguard veteran troopers.
Thing is I usually run them with six combiplasma and four combimelta, but since each of them in the bits store was sold by about 3€ they won´t be truly wysiwsg (they are recognisable enough among his mates to be worried about this).

As the vanguard ones, the legs are from the BA kits and in this case there are a pair of legs (the legs of two veterans) which are from the space wolves box, the other are from the Raven Guard upgrade kit (custom bolters included).
Here is a detail of the backpacks (from the upgrade kit too).
Detail of the colours of the chapter shoulderpads, they have the colours inverted from the vanguard scheme.
What do you think about them??

Jumpack Chaplain

Today is the turn for a chaplain, the one that, in case they become better in next codex, will jump along with the vanguard vets.

As you can see I swapped the bolt pistol and added a powerfist, just because I love power fists and to make the guy be more versatile.

Here is a close-up of his face, just because I´m very proud of the paintwork of the eyelenses.

The left side of the guy.
Here you can see the custom-made shoulderpad (plastic deathwatch shoulderpad with the inquisition symbol filed and replaced by the Raven of the Raven Guard.

As you can see in this picture I´ve painted his tabard as a parchment, with lots of tiny letters (not real letters, of course).

You can also take a look at the crozius arcanum of the dude, I´ve painted it white, inked asurmen blue and highlighted white to give it a energised feeling, which I think is not achieved, but still I like it very much.
As you can see in the shoulderpad he is the chaplain of my company, Oh, and you can notice the whole base that was missing in the previous chaplain I bought when finecast came to life.

And there is a bit of etched brass in the jumpack.
The backpack from the back.

Hope you like it.

Just a test: Necrosphinx leg.

Recently a friend saw the Thousand son value of the necrosphinx and will be making a Tzeenchian great daemon from it, but as the sprue is (besides amazing), there is one spare leg, which I asked him to give me to make a quick test on it, which he generously accepted to do so.

And this is the result, trying to simulate dark blue gem-like colour on the skin and old gold in the ... golds :D

It is painted to be a test, this is why the gems are red and green.

I think there is too much white on it, but I really like the effect I achieved and I think that a full necrosphinx in this scheme will look pretty cool indeed.

But don´t ask which colours did I used, cause I used about 8 different blues from GW, vallejo, americana and maybe some others and don´t remember them.

What do you think.

Vanguard veterans squad A final batch and group photos.

And this are the final two guys of the first squad of vanguard vets, a plasma pistol/chainsword guy and the relic weaponed, plasma pistol sarge.

I painted the whole unit in the scheme of the veteran depicted in the back of the Veterans Mk.I box.

The guy has a bionic arm, just to give more credit to his veterany (damn, I´m and awful photographer, this dudes looks pretty better than in the photos.
Here is the sarge, plasmagunning someone down.

Here is a close up of the helmet and the torso (I truly love that helm).

As I told you in the test mini post, the whites are a bit sandy cause I didn´t shake properly the GW white primer can and the paint came out pretty sandy...

Detail of the shoulderpad and the plasma pistol.
Detail of the relic weapon (one of the Sevrin Loth´s command squad´s relic weapons) and the chapter shoulderpad.

Here is a curious thing of my minis, almost everyone in this squad bears a tabard but only the sarge´s one is white, cause as I told you in the dreadnought post, I wanted my army to be a bit darker. And here is the squad as a whole.

What do you think about it?

Vanguard veterans squad A: second quartet.

Here there are another quartet of vanguar vets.

As you can see there is a mix of weaponery in them, that is just for coolness sake :) .

There are a pair of troopers, one with a chainsword and plasma pistol and the other with a pow fist and a bolt pistol.
And their backpacks, which are from the BA sprue but are completed with some etched brass.
Detail of the pow fist guy.
This is another trooper, I cannot put photos of the fourth one because the internet ate them.

This guy has his arm converted, just to put him in a more dynamic position.

From the other side.

Next: Another trooper, the sarge and the whole squad.
